Product Review: Kinnikinnick Personal Size Pizza Crusts

Posted by: Marissa on Feb. 9, 2012

This was a fun product to review. The box includes four frozen pizza crusts that are dairy free, nut free and, of course, gluten free.

Ease of Use

The crusts come frozen and ready to use. The instructions say to top the frozen crusts with toppings of your choice and bake them in a 375 degree oven for 10-15 minutes. I topped mine with a variety of ingredients and baked them for 15 minutes. The crusts were very soft and droopy, just the way my daughter likes it. I like a more well-done texture, so I put mine in the oven for another five minutes. I ended up with a nice, firm crust that I could pick up without it drooping under the weight of my toppings.

One more thing that I need to add about the use of this product is the packaging. There are four crusts in the box. The crust are wrapped in pairs so that you can make two at a time and leave the other two in the freezer to use later without worrying about freshness.

Appearance

Kinnikinnick Personal Size Pizza Crusts are rectangular, approximately six inches by four inches. They are white with evenly spaced holes. One side seems almost raw, very soft. The other side has smaller holes and a coating of corn meal. When they are baked, the corners take on a slightly golden brown color.

Taste and Texture

I would describe these as pastry-type pizza crusts. They are fluffy, soft, tender, chewy and just plain tasty. There is a hint of sweetness to the crust that proved to be an excellent compliment to bold toppings. My favorite feature was that the crust did not absorb the sauce. Everything stayed separated into perfect layers.

Versatility

We topped each of the crusts a different way. Two had pizza sauce and toppings, one had a creamy spinach and artichoke dip and the other became a breakfast pizza (bacon, egg, cheese and broccoli). All four maintained their texture and had amazing flavor. Next time I’m going to experiment with dessert toppings.

Overall Value

The box of four crusts cost me around $10. The price seems steep to me until I consider what it costs to order out for gluten free pizza or buy a frozen, ready made one. When compared, these come out to a pretty good value.

Rating

I loved them. I was wowed on all fronts and will buy these again.
