Product Review: Arrowhead Mills Puffed Corn Cereal

Posted by: Marissa on Jan. 26, 2012

This cereal is in the purest form possible. It is very simple, and pretty nutritious. The only ingredient is puffed whole grain yellow corn. One note to keep in mind is that, though the cereal is naturally gluten free, it is not produced in a gluten free facility. I ate it with no adverse reaction.

Ease of Use

Arrowhead Mills Puffed Corn Cereal comes ready to eat in a plastic bag. You will want to have a zip-lock bag or re-sealable container handy to keep the cereal fresh.

Appearance

The bag is full of little puffy balls. The puffs are lightly speckled and have indentions where the hard kernels have been removed.

Taste and Texture

It tastes like puffed up corn. This was really no surprise, considering the ingredients :) Since there is no salt or sugar, the taste is very plain and natural. My daughter won’t touch it without honey on top, but I like the fact that I get to control the amount of sweetener she gets.

The texture is great. It’s like smooth popcorn without the hulls. It is crunchy and chewy, but prone to sogginess.

Versatility

This is the perfect addition to Chex mix. I would buy it just for that. It would also be good on top of yogurt or smothered in marshmallow like Rice Crispy Treats.

Overall Value

This cereal is a great value! You get a large bag for under $2.

Rating

This cereal is very simple, and even bland. It has so much potential! I’ll keep buying it for the Chex mix alone.
