Product Review: Udi's Gluten Free Cinnamon Rolls

Posted by: Marissa on Aug. 10, 2010

It's time again to hear the news from the happy box that Udi's sent me! Today, the gluten free goodness on the table is an Udi's Gluten Free Cinnamon Roll. I was so excited to see these in the box because people on twitter brag about eating them all the time and they have not hit my grocery store yet. I admit to feeling a bit left out of what was described as a cinnamon roll revolution.

I have finally joined the revolution :) I pulled the 4-pack out of the box and D.D. and I did a happy dance, and then another when we realized that packets of glaze were included. I mean, cinnamon rolls are awesome, but cinnamon rolls with fresh gooey glaze are even better.

I ran into a bit of trouble when it came time to eat them, though. I know, open mouth, insert roll, right? See, the problem came from the fact that I always do a bit of research on a product when reviewing it. I saw the description for the gluten free cinnamon rolls on Udi's website and it said they should be warm, but there were no instructions on how to do this.

I tried to microwave the first two. They were warm, but got tough as they cooled. I know that this happens a lot when bread is microwaved, so I heated the other two rolls in the oven- and got the same result. By the time I got to the last bite the roll was almost crunchy in spots. Even with my major texture issues, though, this would not keep me from eating these cinnamon rolls again, but I might stick to room temperature in the future.

Why am I willing to throw my picky texture tendencies to the wind, you ask? Because of the flavor, of course! After trying these cinnamon rolls, I can see why people wanted to tweet about it when they ate one. They are sweet, rich and tasty. The glaze added a whole other dimension of flavor that was irresistible. Nothing about these gluten free cinnamon rolls will leave your tongue disappointed, that's for sure!

Udi's gluten free cinnamon rolls sell for around $6.50 for a 4-pack. Not too bad, but a bit high for a large family. I definitely recommend that you grab some if they turn up in the freezer case in your local grocery store.
