Product Review: Udi’s Double Chocolate Muffins

Posted by: Marissa on Aug. 3, 2010

Last Friday, I was gifted with one of the coolest things you can imagine- an entire box of goodies from Udi’s! Until now, I hadn’t had the opportunity to sample many of the gluten free food from Udi’s. Now, I would love to continue sampling :)

Before I go any further, let’s turn our attention to disclaimer guy: Even though Udi’s sent me this product to try, I am under no obligation to provide a review, favorable or otherwise... Now, on to the good stuff!

In the little box of heaven from Udi’s were some Double Chocolate Muffins that are beyond amazing. They come in a package of four, and are obviously baked in the tray they ship in. There are no paper liners on the muffins, but they release easily from the tray.

These happy gluten free muffins look like large chocolate decadence with flat glossy tops. I was intrigued by the fact that the top of the muffin looked almost like an extra cap of frosting. I’ve always been one to lick the frosting off first, so this extra layer totally drew me in.

Words cannot describe the perfect combination of texture and flavor in Udi’s Gluten Free Double Chocolate Muffins, but you know I have to try. The texture of the muffin is dense, rich and thick. It completely melts in your mouth without being the least bit crumbly. The chocolate chips that adorn the top are smooth and melty, adding extra chocolate flavor with no distracting crunch. This, my friends, is where Devil’s Food Cake and a fresh batch of brownies combine and then explode into a perfection of muffiny goodness- and that’s just the texture!

The flavor of these gluten free muffins is a complex blend of rich dark chocolate and a hint of lemon. Thy are not a bit over-sweet, just silky smooth chocolatey yum. Now, if I were reading this review, I would be a bit put off by the mention of a hint of lemon in a chocolate muffin, but you shouldn’t be. The bit of citrus compliments the chocolate very well.

As I’m sure you’ve figured out by now, I am fully prepared to highly recommend the Gluten Free Double Chocolate Muffins from Udi’s. As picky as I am, I cannot find a single thing to complain about. I really think that anyone out there who is even remotely chocoholic should go out and pick some up immediately.

They should be in the freezer case at the store where you buy your gluten free food. If they aren’t, they are totally worth buying online.
